HIKING ROUTES
In the majestic landscapes of Ellivuori Resort, there are scenic trails and excellent cycling routes. In winter, there are 3 km of ski tracks. Nature trail maps for Ellivuori Resort are available at the reception of Hotel Restaurant Ellivuori and at the city’s tourist information center in Pukstaavi (The Museum of Finnish Book in the city center).

TRAIL MAPS
The map features six nature trails in the vicinity of Ellivuori Resort, with lengths ranging from 1.3 kilometers to 6.4 kilometers. Of these trails, Pirunpolku (blue trail) and Pirunkierto (red trail) are marked on the terrain. The map also highlights important points of interest, such as dry toilets, parking areas, a beach, a campfire site, a lean-to shelter, as well as resort services (e.g., restaurant and camping area).
CYCLING ROUTES
Cycling is a popular way to explore the surroundings and nature. While cycling, you can admire the beautiful landscapes of Sastamala at your own pace. The cycling routes related to Ellivuori have been compiled together and are approximately 20–40 kilometers long. The maps provide the lengths of the routes and indications of the road surfaces. Along the routes, you can enjoy the lake views of Rautavesi or Liekovesi, the rugged terrain of Ellivuori and Häijää, or the idyllic countryside of the villages. You can rent an electric-assisted fat bike from the Hotel Restaurant Ellivuori.
ELLIVUORI - OTAMUS - HÄIJÄÄ
The Ellivuori-Otamus-Häijää route runs through rugged and forested terrain, offering picturesque views of Ellivuori, Otamus, and Häijää, mostly along gravel roads. Häijää features a diverse service center with shops and restaurants, and during the summer, you can stop for coffee at the Otamus café. Otamus also has nature trails and a lean-to shelter, and from there, you can connect via Siuro to the Pyhäjärvi route, which is part of the PyhäNäsi trail network.
ELLIVUORI - RITAJÄRVI
The Ellivuori-Ritajärvi route leads from Ellivuori to the popular hiking trails of the Ritajärvi Nature Reserve. Along the way, you can replenish your provisions at the Karkku Village Shop and enjoy your snacks at the rest spots in Ritajärvi. Ellivuori offers resort services, as well as the stunning landscapes of Pirunvuori and the artist's studio Pirunvuoren Kivilinna.
SIX BRIDGES LOOP
The Six Bridges Loop tours the islands of Kulo and Rautavesi in an idyllic rural landscape. There are a total of six water crossings as you proceed from Karkunkylä to Salon Island, Iso Island, to the mainland, then to Kutala Island, and back to the mainland on Kärppäläntie Road. During the summer, the route is served by the summer kiosk Kutalan Kasino, which also hosts various events throughout the season. From the route, there is a connection via Tottijärvi to the Pyhäjärvi route, which is part of the PyhäNäsi trail network. More routes can be found on the VisitSastamala website.
PIRUNVUORI
Pirunvuori has been a popular destination since the mid-1800s due to its stunning landscapes. On Pirunvuori, there is a wilderness studio built from natural stone by the painter Emil Danielsson (1882-1967). The stone castle was constructed in 1906 in just one summer by a few local men without modern building tools. Emil Danielsson, along with his wife Saga (née Aurora Andelin), came to Karkku's Pirunvuori every summer for nearly sixty years. The city of Sastamala keeps the stone castle open during the summer, and during this time, it hosts various art exhibitions.
HOW TO GET THERE
From the yard of Hotel Ellivuori, a well-maintained path to Pirunvuori and the Stone Castle starts along the left side of the VuoriCaravan camping area. The journey is approximately 1 km on an easy-to-walk gravel road, and the very last part to the Stone Castle is also an easy path. Beyond that, the trail becomes a rockier forest path, leading to the top of Pirunvuori and Pirun Cave.
RITAJÄRVI
The Ritajärvi Nature Reserve, with its nature trails, offers marked paths of varying lengths. The area comprises three wilderness lakes, around which the moderately challenging hiking trails meander through the diverse landscapes of old forests. The distance from Ellivuori to Ritajärvi is approximately 19 km.
OTAMUS
The Otamus Nature Area features a café, a lean-to shelter, a grilling and swimming spot, a restroom, a water point, a guest boat dock, and a ramp for launching boats. The area also offers three different loop trails, with the café located at a junction of the trails. The distance from Ellivuori to Otamus is approximately 15 km.
